#SixYearsTooLong Newcastle

The #SixYearsTooLong actions are an opportunity to talk to people and circulate information opposing Lifetime Ban and Medivac repeal Bills

Resource materials for are on google drive   at https://tinyurl.com/lifebanmedivac

1) Lifetime ban
When the lifetime ban was first proposed in 2016 we were given just 4 days to respond.
There were 84 submissions received. All of them opposed the bill.
I've attached some of these, I think the UNHCR one is pretty good.
Ours ((HASA, Hunter Asylum Seeker Advocacy))  focusses on the reasons given for the bill. Its a bit feisty (usually more measured).

Perhaps we in Newcastle can continue to focus on that aspect, and also on the effect this bill would have on families as that is directly relevant to one of our active members.
Perhaps other groups may have the resources to focus on how the bill violates international laws and ageements, as well as its implications for Australian society and international relations.

The deadline for submission to the inquiry is 7 August 2019

2) Medivac

If someone is actively working on a submission if they could write up  a request for support to give to local MPs prior to #6yearstoolong rallies- ours is this Thursday, we'll see our MP beforehand

The deadline for submission to the inquiry is 16 August 2019

Actions in the Hunter

Hunter Asylum Seeker Advocacy is primarily coordinated via facebook http://tinyurl.com/hasa-fb

Sorry I found dupicate posting of stuff just too much- and not enough people visit the blog . It will be used from time to time. Even fb is a pain- eg for a while I asked people to refer to the "events" tab to keep track of our actions, but of late the Grandmothers group has taken up the role of circulating announcements,  which we share. I ts good that there are now other groups doing this but it does make it a bit harded to keep all th info in the one place. Anyway, at least there is plenty of action!
